Sunflower Plaque Tutorial Part III - Leaf Cane
In this section of the tutorial, I'll be working with the green blend to form a leaf cane.

Step 40
First, I'm going to cut a portion of it (about 1/3rd of the blend) to save for later.

Step 41
Now I'm going to fold the larger portion in half (You may want to fold it into thirds if your blend is wider.) to create a 2 inch wide strip to roll through the pasta machine.

Step 42
Here, I've rolled it through the pasta machine on the thickest setting.

Step 43
Now I've cut the strip lengthwise down the center.

Step 44
Then I cut the strips into 1 inch squares, keeping them in order from light to dark.

Step 45
Now I'm going to stack those squares as shown in the pic. Note how I overlapped the last 5 squares over the first 9 squares.

Step 46
Now I have two stacks that look like this.

Step 47
Now I've placed them back-to-back so that they look like this. (You could also do it the other way - so that the dark green is on the outside.)

Step 48
Now I'm going to begin compressing and reducing it into a round cane. (Once you've compressed it and smoothed the edges, you could also wrap it in a contrasting color to form an outline, if you'd like.)

Step 49
Here's a view of the reduced cane. I've pinched the end portion into a leaf shape so you can get an idea of what the "leaves" will look like.
