What You Should Know. . . about "What Else To Do With Skinner Blends"
~ I have created this tutorial as a 90-step afterthought to What To Do With Skinner Blends. It should offer detailed explanations for creating a tri-colored Skinner blend, making 2 types of Ikat canes, and the reduction of those canes. These canes can be used in a myriad of ways to form a variety of different patterns. In the last Part of the tutorial, I loosely demonstrate how I applied them to a bead to create a Holographic Weave pattern.
~ Difficulty Level:
This tutorial was designed for the Intermediate and the Advanced. It should offer step-by-step instruction for creating complex Ikat canes to the Intermediate. The Advanced may find some of Parts to be reiterative, redundant, and over-simplified; so, they may find the Tutorial Index to be of help in selecting a specific Part that may be of interest to them.
~ Polymer Clay is such a versatile medium that there are many different ways to accomplish many different effects. Sometimes, there are many different ways to accomplish the same effect. I am sure that there are steps in this tutorial which could be changed, tweaked, done differently, or otherwise skipped altogether. If you are familiar with doing something differently, by all means, do in a way that you are comfortable with. This tutorial was designed to document the steps that I took to create something. Let it be a guide and a reference for your own spirited (and holographic) creations!
~ As with any tutorial, I highly recommend that you read through it in its entirety first to determine whether or not it is something you would like to try. It does call for a bit of 'marathon claying'!
~ Whenever possible, I like to "wing-it." I'm not very precise when it comes to measuring and such, and I don't 'trim edges' until I absolutely have to. I find that I actually waste less clay this way. If you're accustomed to seeing tutorials in magazines or on television where all of the sheets are rectangular and all of the slices are even and all of the amounts are measured, be prepared to be pleasantly shocked by my approximate estimations for things.
~ If you have any questions or comments regarding this tutorial, please feel free to email me at tokensbeads@hotmail.com If you try this tutorial, I'd love to see your results.
~ Happy Claying!
